In the first section of Fahrenheit 451, most of the characters are indirectly characterized. The joy that Guy Montag has in starting fires is expressed by the type tone he uses: " He would feel the fiery smile still gripped by his face muscles. He hung up his black beetle-colored helmet and shined it; he hung his flameproof jacket neatly " (Bradbury 4). The purpose of this quote is to show that Guy is passionate about his job and he takes much pride in it.
Section 2: Mildred Montag could be described as someone who lacks self respect. Her isolation from society creates a lonely feeling inside her which makes her attempt to commit suicide. " The small crystal bottle of sleeping tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty tablets and which now lay uncapped and empty in the light of the tiny flare " (Bradbury 13). This quote shows how hopeless Mildred is by mentioning her over dosage on sleeping pills.
Section 3: Throughout the story, Guy starts to become this dynamic character. In just a few days, all of these tragedies are happening to the people he cares about. He realizes that after so many years of burning books he has to turn to them for answers. When one of the character's says " Don't judge a book by its cover " (Bradbury 155). This quote basically sums up the whole story because in the beginning, Guy Montag thought that books were bad for people until he realizes that there are some important things in them.
